Celebrate Winter Magic with Outdoor Family Photos in Essex
Winter in Essex has its own quiet kind of beauty – frosty mornings, golden sunlight filtering through bare branches, and that cosy feeling of wrapping up warm together. It’s the perfect time to capture your family’s story in a way that feels natural, fun, and full of seasonal charm.
I’m Shiralee, an Essex-based photographer, and this year I’m offering Winter and Christmas photo sessions for families and children who love being outdoors. Forget stiff studio backdrops – we’ll head outside where the real magic happens, letting the kids run, play, and explore while I capture those genuine smiles and moments you’ll treasure forever.

Why I Love Winter Sessions
There’s something special about winter light – softer, lower, and more golden than any other season. I adore the textures of frosted leaves, the excitement of little ones crunching through icy grass, and the way families naturally snuggle closer in the cold. These moments feel intimate and honest, and they photograph beautifully.
Why a Winter Session?
Nature’s Backdrop: Frost-kissed fields, woodland textures, and low winter light create soft, timeless photos.
Festive Vibes: Add a hint of Christmas cheer with cosy hats, scarves, or even a special festive prop.
Unique Memories: Perfect for holiday cards, gifts for grandparents, or simply marking a new season of family life.

Where We’ll Shoot
Most sessions take place at the beautiful Woodlands in Stock, one of my favourite spots for winter photography. Its tall trees, quiet paths, and frosted clearings create a magical atmosphere – perfect for relaxed family portraits and playful children’s shots.
For those looking for a more open countryside feel, Dunton Country Park is another fantastic option, with wide meadows and rustic charm. Both locations are easy to reach, family-friendly, and ideal for little explorers.
What to Expect
Sessions are relaxed and fun – I’ll guide you through the best spots and gently prompt natural interactions, whether it’s a cuddle, a game, or a frosty walk hand in hand. Dress for warmth with cosy layers, boots, and colourful hats – the textures and colours of winter clothing photograph beautifully.
What to Wear
For the most timeless photographs, I recommend subtle, natural colours like soft creams, warm browns, muted greens, and gentle pastels. Coordinating rather than matching outfits works beautifully – think layers, knits, and textures rather than identical clothes.
Try to avoid big logos or bold branding, as these can distract from the warmth and connection in your photos. The aim is for your images to feel classic and stand the test of time – something you’ll love looking back on in years to come.

Give the Gift of Memories
Looking for a thoughtful present? I also offer gift vouchers – perfect for parents, grandparents, or friends who would love a family session but wouldn’t book for themselves. A voucher is a beautiful way to give lasting memories this Christmas.
Limited Winter Dates
Availability for these sessions is limited – especially as we approach Christmas. If you’re dreaming of magical outdoor photos this winter, now’s the time to book.
